Who We Are
Our Motorhoming History and Background
After Matt grew up with his parents having campervans, we’ve been campervanning and motorhoming ourselves for several years, and have done one previous European tour in 2012. In a 2 week trip we had an ambitious target of getting to Portugal. We travelled a total of 3,500 miles in our Vauxhall Vivaro self-converted campervan down the west coast of France, around the north-west corner of Spain, into Portugal as far as Porto, and back to the UK. We used Aires and freecamped every night except one that we stayed on a campsite in Spain about midway through when there were no motorhome service points nearby. This was done entirely on the fly without any guidebooks, websites or apps to help find places to stay, we just followed a road map and looked out for suitable spots!
We really enjoyed the touring lifestyle seeing all the different places travelling through different countries and staying in some amazing spots (for free!) right next beaches. This trip gave us the inspiration to tour longer term in future to be able to go to more countries, and spend more time in the places without the tight timescale. From then on we planned and saved hard for when Matt had finished his PhD, as a suitable point for a career break, to set off for a year touring around Europe in a motorhome, which we started in late 2014.
Hi Jo and Matt,
ReplyDeletesorry its taken so long to find your site, due to the fact that when I returned from Portugal, early March '16, I misplaced your address, but on cleaning out my Camper found it under one of the cupoards. It was great to meet you both, and the suprise meeting in the Town of Portamao.
Hope your both still feeling enthusiastic about your travels, and by reading or starting to read some of your blogs then I am feeling a little jealous right now!
Take care, safe journey and enjoy your trips wherever the road may take you.
Best regards,
Bill,(Pioneer) Motorhomingwild.org
Hi Bill, Thanks for dropping us a message, it's good to hear from you. Hope all's well with you back home. It was great meeting you too down in Portugal.
DeleteWe're still really enjoying the touring life but will be back in the UK in a couple of weeks to get back into work. More travels are planned for the future though.
Keep in touch and hopefully we'll meet again, maybe we'll cross paths in the Norwegian fjords!
All the best, Matt
